LGM Industries was engaged to carry out the replacement of two existing Nitric Acid storage tanks.

The size of the two tanks were 1500m3 capacity each and were situated in a bund in Unit 52 of the TAN plant. The existing Nitric Acid Tanks had suffered from corrosion and deterioration to a point where the tanks were no longer fit for service.

The tank replacement scope of work involved the following primary activities:

 

  • The procurement and processing of the stainless steel plate and other tank components.
  • The fabrication of the tanks including detailing and surface treatment.
  • The installation of the tanks on the client provided refurbished plinths within Unit 52 of the TAN plant.
  • The installation of the secondary steelwork (stairways / handrails / platforms).
  • The hydrotesting of the completed tanks in location in accordance with the standard.

The primary governing standard for the works and the required certification was API650 Welded Tanks for Oil Storage.
