LGM was engaged to design, fabricate and install a stronger SDCC.

The Boiler Submerged Drag Chain Conveyor (SDCC) was a primary focused maintenance and design upgrade as a result of previous design issues and harsh environmental conditions. The original SDCC was replaced in 2011 after experiencing a number of maintenance issues. The SDCC as of June 2018 was operational, however the original damage caused considerably shortened the design life and therefore would require a significant amount to refurbish. Therefore, it was decided that a full or partial replacement was considered a more economical solution that would also have the least impact on operations.

The new SDCC was required to meet detailed specifications outlined in the provided documentation and was to be designed to achieve a design life of 25 years. The scope of work for this project included redesigning, fabricating and installing the:

  • Tail section: additional frames, thicker wall plate and floor plate.
  • Main body (under the boiler): different shape body, stronger frames, addition of removable trays.
  • Transition section: stronger frames, replaceable tray, ensuring the shape change of the main body matches the shape change of the incline section.
  • Incline section: strong frames with trays.
