LGM Industries was engaged to supply all of the components required to complete the construction work for the Elevator Throughput mechanical upgrades and Hopper and Boot Pit modifications.
Rail outloading across the CBH network is often completed by transporting grain with an elevator to a garner bin (sausage bin or over-rail bin). Most of these elevators were built in the late 1960s and early 1970s with nameplate throughputs of between 200tph and 300tph. Four elevators were identified as areas for mechanical and electrical modifications with the goal to optimise the throughput of the existing systems and minimise costs.
LGM’s scope of work for this project included:
Mechanical Upgrades (head chute assemblies, 2-way valves, 450sq chutes):
- Removing existing chute work used for rail outloading from the garner bin.
- Removing all existing chute work from between the 2-way valve and the garner bin.
- Removing the 2-way valve and all chutes between the 2-way valve and elevator head chute.
- Removing the existing elevator head chute and head casing.
- Installing the new elevator belt and buckets in the elevator.
- Supplying and installing new CBH designed elevator head casing and head chute.
- Supplying and installing new chutes and 2-way valve as per CBH design, including valve operating mechanism.
- Modifying the existing garner bin entry points to suit feed from a 450mm square chute.
- Supplying and installing new outloading chutes from the 2-way valve to get the garner bin.
- Supplying and installing new chutes to feed from the 2-way valve to the inloading conveyor.
- Modifying garner bin exits to suit 450mm square chutes for rail outloading.
- Supplying and installing 450mm square chutes for rail outloading from the garner bin exit.
Hopper and Boot Pit modifications (boot/hopper transition pieces, wall spigots and knife gate valve):
- Removing existing chute work in the boot pit (from between the elevator and the hopper).
- Cutting out the 2x existing wall spigots from the boot/hopper walls.
- Cutting 2x openings in the boot/hopper concrete to size to prepare for installation of the 2x wall spigots.
- Installing 2x new wall spigots.
- Installing the main body assembly on to the existing boot casing.
- Installing the main body gate valve and connecting it to the existing rack and pinion and valve wheel on the elevator (making sure the valve operates as intended – fully opening and closing).
- Installing the right-hand rack and pinion valve, ensuring the valve control chain is tensioned correctly and the valve operates as intended (fully opens and closes).
- Installing right-hand transition assembly between the right-hand rack and pinion valve and the main body assembly (making sure it fits properly and making any adjustments if required).
- Installing the left-hand rack and pinion valve, ensuring the valve control chain is tensioned correctly and the valve operates as intended (fully opens and closes).
- Installing the left-hand transition assembly between the left-hand rack and pinion valve and the main body assembly (making sure it fits properly and making any adjustments if required).
