Servicing the Western Australian Industrial Sector

Home LGM News Servicing the Western Australian Industrial Sector

In recent months, LGM teams have been busy working with clients located throughout Western Australia, with several major projects, shutdowns plus our ongoing maintenance work. From the Pilbara in the north, the Goldfields in the east, Peel and in the South West, we have been tackling our clients structural, mechanical and piping challenges head on.

The completion of the first of two storage tanks at Yara Pilbara Nitrates in Karratha was a major milestone and works on the second tank are progressing well. Also in the Pilbara, the installation of an automated grout batching plant (pictured below) at FMG’s Solomon site north of Tom Price was also a success.

Forming part of the Queens Hydraulic Barrier Project, this plant will be instrumental in enabling FMG to meet environmental and Aboriginal cultural heritage protection obligations, allowing mining activities to be conducted adjacent to the existing aquifer.

LGM also have multiple projects in progress at Newmont Boddington. Multiple facility relocations are supporting the mines expansion and a major upgrade of the fixed plant infrastructure and equipment is helping to increase capacity and relieve process bottlenecks.

This month, the LGM team also undertook multiple shutdowns. Our agility was key to supporting RoundOak Minerals with a shutdown at the Jaguar Mine in Eastern Goldfields, 60km north of Leonora. LGM repaired the zinc concentrate thickener tank, which required repairs to joint flanges on internal and external walls, removal and replacement of overflow box and installation of new overflow pipe work. Our team also worked with Laminex, with two conveyors requiring maintenance and repairs including the replacement of drive chains and bearings.

In the South West, we have a team working on site in Kemerton, refurbishing a feed tank for Tronox. The existing lid, plus the rim angle and overflow nozzle will be replaced with newly fabricated parts.

LGM are also proud to continue to work with South32 Worsley Alumina, providing ongoing maintenance support. Following the implementation of an enhanced HSE programme, we have seen continued improvement in safety performance, in line with South32 Worsley Alumina’s own, site wide safety performance improvement.
