Slew Bearing Lifting Frame & Slide Table

Rio Tinto
Australia, WA

Rio Tinto utilises large swivelling shiploader’s to convey and load iron ore into cargo ships. These shiploader’s swivel on a large slew bearing, which weighs 7.5 tonne and is 6m in diameter. One of the bearings is         approaching it’s design life and will soon require change out. Due to the shiploader being located on a wharf structure with limited room for maintenance, a task specific set of rotating and jacking frames was designed for the change out. LGM was contracted by G&S Engineering to fabricate, surface treat and supply all items associated with the task. This included structural steel frames, hand rails, gridmesh and UHMWPE slide strips & bushes.
