What We Did:

Following the expansion of its Cataby mineral sands mine, Iluka needed to upgrade its processing facilities at its synthetic rutile operations 4.5 km north of Capel. This facility produces ilmenite (TiO2) to feed the Capel synthetic rutile (SR) plants.

LGM were engaged to supply and install the SMP portion of the North Capel Separation Mill upgrades. As part of the project, LGM fabricated and installed structural steel within the existing building and supplied and installed walkways, stairs and access platforms. Also included was the installation of supplied items into the existing building.

The Project Required:

  • 5 new bucket elevators.
  • A gas-fired fluid bed reheater.
  • 8 electrostatic mineral separators.
  • 1 aero belt conveyor.
  • 3 belt conveyors.
  • 1 weigh feeder.

What We Did:

The Nammuldi Iron Ore Mine is located 60 km north-west of Tom Price in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. The mine is owned and operated by Rio Tinto. LGM was engaged to carry out mechanical and piping works as part of the Below Water Table Project. The works we carried out were for new non002Dprocess infrastructure at the central mine services and process plant area.

The Project Required:

  • HME workshop, bulk lube facility, service truck filling, HME wash-down, retention ponds and standpipe.
  • Ammonia nitrate storage building.
  • Fixed plant workshop, admin and ERO buildings.

What We Did:

The Concentrate Grade Improvement Project was required to increase recovery of copper concentrate at the Boddington Gold Mine.

LGM was engaged to supply and install structural mechanical and piping to improve the production output. This included the addition of new plant items and modification to existing plant.

LGM have the expertise to fabricate and install pipe to a large range of size, material, and grade including Mild Steel, Stainless Steel, Inconel and other exotic alloys. This skillset was required for the Concentrate Grade Improvement Project, where LGM were responsible for the supply and installation of large quantities of HDPE, Stainless Steel Oxygen, Epoxy Lined, Rubber Lined and Carbon Steel pipelines.

The Project Required:

  • Cleaner scalper flotation column (including access platforms).
  • Column feed box.
  • Talis pumps.
  • Recirculation pumps.
  • 2 air compressors and associated equipment.
  • Associated service pipework (air, water, fire water).
  • Associated process piping (slurry, raw water).

What We Did:

Removal of this bin was particularly challenging, as the surrounding plant was not designed to facilitate replacement (the bin was expected to outlast the mine life during construction).

The Project Required:

  • Removal of the existing bin U024211, removal of all nominated auxiliary equipment, structures and plant.
  • The supply and installation of the prefabricated replacement bin, complete with upgraded liners as per design model, within the allocated access outage.
  • Fabricating the replacement bin (approx. 90T) in our Bunbury fabrication facility before trial assembling and 3D scanning in the adjacent laydown area (approx. 10,000 m2), ensuring dimensional tolerance.
  • Planning and devising the replacement of the ailing bin and overcoming the challenge of safely removing the redundant asset from within a congested location with operating plant surrounding the work area. This required the design and engineering of several lifting devices – most notably a rail-mounted turntable and elevating platform that allowed the redundant bin to be cut, lowered, swivelled and manoeuvred out of the building. The same system was then used to install the new upgraded bin.
